Base64 Encode / Decode
Encode UTF-8 text as Base64 or decode Base64 back to text. Supports Base64URL, Japanese, Chinese, and emoji, with all processing in your browser.
Page views are measured using analytics. Input text and conversion results are excluded. Privacy policy
Standard Base64 uses + and /, with = padding. Base64URL uses - and _, without padding when encoding.
Choose a format, then select Encode or Decode.
Choose a format, then select Encode or Decode. Editing the input or changing the format clears the previous result. Input is not saved automatically.
Copy the result or use it as input for another conversion. Decoded content is shown as text and is never executed.
How to use Base64 Encode / Decode
- Paste text to encode or Base64 to decode into the input box, then choose standard Base64 or Base64URL.
- Select Encode to convert UTF-8 text to Base64, or Decode to convert Base64 to UTF-8 text. Japanese, Chinese, and emoji are supported.
- Copy the result when you need it. Use result as input lets you perform the reverse conversion after selecting the appropriate format.
Supported text and formats
Base64 represents data as text; it is not encryption. This tool handles UTF-8 text only, with no file or binary-data conversion. Decoding ignores spaces, tabs, and line breaks, and accepts correctly padded or unpadded input. Characters from another alphabet, incorrect padding, non-zero padding bits, and invalid UTF-8 are rejected. The original input is retained on error.
Limits and data handling
Input is limited to 5 MiB in UTF-8, output to 20 MiB, and processing to 5 seconds. Empty text can also be encoded or decoded. Input and output are not placed in URLs, server logs, analytics events, or browser storage. Page-view analytics and normal page-resource requests remain enabled.
